But he left a number of interesting landmarks along the way and across the ongoing wreckage of his political career, and these I will endeavour to evaluate in blogposts to come, suggesting that while he ultimately and spectacularly failed the character test (whilst pursuing his lifetime political fantasy), he left a legacy that suggests a much more nuanced and complex person, about whom and about whose ongoing legacy, as New Zealand's own Gerry Brownley has well stated,
the history books may well be much more kind.
